There are 3 different sections of a health and safety policy which highlights your intent regarding health & safety within the business.

Statement of intent (what are the director’s owner’s intention with regards to health and safety)

  • Maintaining the workplace in a safe condition and providing adequate facilities and arrangements for welfare at work
  • Setting health and safety objectives
  • Providing a safe means of access to and egress from the workplace
  • The provision and maintenance of equipment and systems of work that are safe
  • Arrangements for ensuring safety to health in connection with the use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances
  • Effective consultation with employees
  • The provision of such information, instructions, training and supervision as is necessary to ensure the health and safety at work of its employees and other persons
  • Ensuring employees who work on site have the correct training and awareness to undertake their jobs safely and to ensure others are kept safe from harm
  • Reporting any hazards and unsafe acts or incident
  • Carry out risk assessments whenever necessary to safeguard the safety of employees and will seek professional advice on safety matters when necessary • Record and carry out investigations into near miss and dangerous occurrences
  • Review and update health & safety management systems on an annual basis
  • Ensure that employees have the correct resources and time to complete health & safety checks and inspections

The Business also recognises its duty to protect the health and safety of all visitors to the Business, including contractors and temporary workers, as well as any members of the public who might be affected by the business work operations.

Roles and responsibilities (who is who and who does what regarding health & safety)

DIRECTOR

Prepare and maintain an up to date Company Health and Safety Policy Statement, ensuring it is brought to the notice of all employees.

Develop organisational procedures for the implementation of the policy, ensuring each person is aware of his/her responsibilities and duties and, allocating the necessary resource to carry them out.

Be aware of the statutory legislation affecting the business operations and administer the policy throughout the Company……………………………

SUPERVISOR

Understand the business Health and Safety policy and ensure it is brought to the notice of all employees, particularly new starters.

Carry out work in accordance with the policy and, bring to the notice of the managing Director, any necessary improvement/s……………………………

OPERATIVES

Be familiar with the Company Health and Safety Policy and carry out your work in accordance with its requirements……………………………

CONTRACTORS

Any employed sub-contractor will be expected to comply with our Company Policy for Health, Safety and Welfare and must ensure their own Company Policy is available on site whilst work is being carried out……………………………

SAFETY ADVISOR

As required by Regulation 7 of “The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations”, Green Light have been appointed to advise and assist all related health, safety and welfare issues related specifically to our business undertakings.

Green Light will be responsible directly to the Director and will also maintain a close relationship with all other employees. Specifically they will perform the following functions…………………………………………

  • Inspection and auditing of health & safety management systems
